Like all apps, Cardata Mobile requires a little TLC to work reliably and capture your trips. So, we've compiled a list of best app usage practices to set the app (and you!) up for success. The better you stick to the suggestions listed, the better the app will work. You will not regret putting these tips into practice!
One: Take advantage of app updates
We highly encourage all drivers to make sure that they're on the latest app version. Every time you update Cardata, you'll notice minor or major improvements designed to make your job easier.
Enabling automatic updates is by far the easiest way to keep your app updated. If you'd prefer to manually update the app, be aware that the most recent app versions are:
iOS: 4.14.1
Android: 4.14.1
To check your app version, open the Cardata side menu by tapping the three-line menu icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen. The app version number lives at the bottom of the side menu.
Two: Configure your settings properly
There's no way around it: settings configurations are essential to tracking.
If your tracking toggle is red, your settings are not configured correctly. If that’s the case, visit one of the articles listed below to fix your settings configurations.

Three: Ensure tracking is enabled
The tracking toggle should be green and set to on.
Even with the toggle set to ‘On’, the app is not designed to indefinitely run and capture trips without your assistance. We recommend that you open the app at least daily to check that everything is working.

Four: Reopen Cardata Mobile if your device shuts down
Whether your device has shut down, restarted due to an update, or was manually turned off, please open Cardata Mobile before you drive for work. It most likely closed when your device turned off.
Five: Review your trips every 2-3 days
We recommend that you review your recorded trips every 2-3 days to check that they have been accurately classified.
How to change a trip's classification
Six: Keep your device directly on your passenger seat
Tracking is more reliable when you keep your device directly on top of your passenger seat, instead of in your backpack, purse, pocket, cup holder, etc. We also suggest that you avoid putting your device under or over objects, including your wallet and other electronics.
iOS: Turn on Wi-Fi
Your device stores a database with the location of all Wi-Fi networks it crosses paths with. When your device registers a Wi-Fi network, it assumes that you're close to that Wi-Fi network's location.
When Wi-Fi is enabled, your device can utilize this database to better determine your location. It also helps your device determine whether or not you're in motion. If it notices that nearby Wi-Fi networks are changing often enough, it assumes that you must be driving.
Note that turning on Wi-Fi does not mean that you will use data or additional battery power.

Optional best practices
These are a few additional best practices that aren't necessary to accurate trip tracking, but may improve it.
iOS: Connect to Bluetooth or CarPlay
For a tracking accuracy boost, enable Bluetooth and connect to your vehicle.
iOS: Avoid handling your device while driving
Cardata Mobile on iOS will end a trip when the speed at which you're moving slows down to walking levels. The app assumes that you're walking away from your vehicle and stops tracking.
Besides the obvious safety concerns, handling your device during an ongoing trip may cause your device to misinterpret the movement as walking and prematurely end the trip. We recommend that you avoid using your device while driving. Please note that this doesn't mean you can't touch your phone at all while driving, just be aware that it may result in segmented trips.
